Different Lives

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with some people who come from a whole different lifestyle than I live. For those who know me, my life has been really simplified in the past few years. I live where I work,I work insane hours many times, I do what I can for my church, and I spend alot of time, energy, and financial resources on Regenesis Project. This opportunity got me thinking, if I felt kind of like a fish out of water, how must the Haitians feel about me? I bring home more in a 2 week paycheck than most of them see in a year. They think all Americans are rich and according to their standard of living we are. But, I certainly don't know what it is like to be rich and famous by American standards. Not that I begrudge wealthy people their money and resources, particularly those who are doing a lot of good with their assets, but I would like to see them do more.

If anything, I've learned what you don't need to have a good life. You don't need a new car, new clothes, the latest electronic gadget, and the list goes on and on. What kind of place would this world be if we sacrificed most of our wants? Who could we help if we sacrificed most of our wants? Would our churches be struggling to meet their budgets? Giving sacrificially is something that seems to have gone by the wayside. How many of us are like the Pharisees? All show and no substance? I don't think that anyone should throw out the baby with the bath water, but when was the last time you gave up something significant in your life and gave it to God's work? The more we get and acquire in life, it seems the more we want and the more it costs to take care of it. It really is true, your heart is where you lay up your treasure. Do you do things and spend money on things because it is expected of you? Someone will be disappointed if you don't provide. Imagine how disappointed God must be when we don't provide for his work. If you make 500,000 dollars a year, a month, or a day, where is your treasure? Is it in the fancy house, car, parties, or is it in God's work. Now, I know the average person doesn't make this kind of money, but where are you putting yours? Are you spending it on what is truly important?
