Haiti Unrest

I had hoped to be traveling to Haiti in May or June, but the travel alert is still at 4. You can go to Haiti when The travel alert is at 4, but if you get in trouble, the embassy isn't going to rescue you. Sometimes it is very hard to explain to others why you want to go to Haiti if it is not always safe. Where we work in Sous Savanne, I am fairly certain that we would be safe. It is the traveling between there and the airport that can get a bit dicey. Haiti has elections, but at times there can be upwards of 100 people running just for president and each one has their own...

Waste, Waste, Waste

In recent days, there has been publicity about Burberry burning 37 million dollars worth of inventory in order to make their brand more exclusive and not have excess inventory to discount or whatever. The fact remains that 37 million dollars means so little to some parts of our society that it is ok to burn it. When I think of what can be done with 37 million dollars to help those who could use a hand up or to help a worthwhile cause, it literally makes me sick to my stomach. Of course, I hold Haiti close to my heart, but there are so many projects and endeavors out there that to burn 37 million dollars is ludicrous. If you...

New Year, New Hopes and Dreams

As we embark on this new year of 2016 ( somebody  explain to me how I got here), it is always a time of renewel, commitment and energy. I cannot forget in all of that, the role that God plays in the work that Regenesis Project attempts to do. Without the guidance, which He probably thinks I ignore, we would be nowhere. Now that our soap project is up and running-despite a couple of hiccups- I am encouraged that maybe we can do more. I just want to be sure that moving ahead is God's will, not mine. I struggle with that concept, maybe more than I should. Haven't we had it pounded into our finite little brains since we...

Half full or half empty

In this day of social media, every once in a while you see something posted, while very simple, is very profound. The other day "it's not whether the glass is half full or half empty, it's refillable" was posted on face book. I thought to myself that if everyone could see this and apply it to their life, what a difference it would make. To keep your glass full requires some action on the individual's part, although once in a while you may need to ask for help to fill your glass. But, if you allow that glass to get empty, you would be in serious trouble. As a Christian, I view Jesus as the living water and if I...

Entitlement

On a daily basis, I find myself reminded of the fact, that as a society, we feel that we are entitled to certain things, and in some extreme cases, everything. I work two jobs on different ends of the financial spectrum. I work in a homeless shelter and a private school. People in both arenas feel that they are entitled , money or not. The young people that attend the private school (and most of the faculty and administration) have led lives that for the most part are not lacking in material things. I have seen waste and lack of respect for things that cost a great deal of money that I have literally felt that I want to vomit....
